git - Rewrite author and username in history

Sometimes you might have to rewrite the author and committer in the git log. To do this, do:

 git filter-branch --env-filter '
OLD_EMAIL="pascal.weiss@debtvision.de"
NEW_NAME="pascalweiss"
NEW_EMAIL="paweiss.sub@gmail.com"
 
if [ "$GIT_COMMITTER_EMAIL" = "$OLD_EMAIL" ]
then
    export GIT_COMMITTER_NAME="$NEW_NAME"
    export GIT_COMMITTER_EMAIL="$NEW_EMAIL"
fi
if [ "$GIT_AUTHOR_EMAIL" = "$OLD_EMAIL" ]
then
    export GIT_AUTHOR_NAME="$NEW_NAME"
    export GIT_AUTHOR_EMAIL="$NEW_EMAIL"
fi
' --tag-name-filter cat -- --branches --tags

Make sure that you have a backup.

Change contributors on github
